ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

EARLY LIFE

Dezaré Dalton Cedillo was born in San Antonio on Feb 15, 1985to William “Brad” Dalton & Carol Vasquez Dalton. Her sister is Brenda Dalton Roman. Dez was a happy, affectionate and very social child. She was very creative & loved being around her Dad. She loved singing, acting and playing sports as a child. Dez and Brenda attended Michelle’s Southern Belles Dance and Twirling studio where they competed and won many awards in local, regional and state twirling and dance competitions. Dez also participated in basketball and T-Ball for St James’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Dez and Brenda were also Brownies as pre-teens. Schools attended were St. James, Palm Heights Baptist and 1 year in public schools in the SW School District. Dez had an internal glow about her and she made friends quickly. In June 1995, her family moved to the Boerne area where Dez graduated from Smithson Valley/Comal Leadership Institute in 2003. Dez finished her senior year in the homebound program, due to an almost fatal car accident at the beginning of her senior year in Sep 2002. The accident occurred while driving to school at the end of her 1st week of driving solo. The Lord was certainly with her and this was her first observed miracle. The compact Toyota Corolla she was driving hit a culvert, rolled 5 times and landed right-side up in the opposing traffic lane. Fortunately, the DPS canine unit traveling directly behind her immediately stopped traffic in both directions until she was rescued and airlifted to University Hospital. No major injuries were incurred; however,it took the rest of the school year to heal from several bone fractures and bruises.

CHURCH AFFILIATIONS

Dez attended Catholic school with her sister until 4th grade. The family moved into their first owned home in 1988 and around 1992 and became members of Lackland Terrace Church of Christ until 1996. The family also visited Boerne Church of Christ, long stints at Oak Hills Church [of Christ] & Cornerstone Church. Dez met her future husband Tim Cedillo at Cornerstone Church Youth Fire (pastored by Warren Beamer) where she was later baptized. She attended many events and camps at S. Padre Island, Camp Bandina and HEB camp (Lackland Terrace). In adulthood, Dez attended Community Bible Church (CBC), CBC Corpus Christi and ultimately CJC Life Church.

TRAVEL

Dez enjoyed many family vacations as a youth and into adulthood. There were summer trips to S. Padre Island and to Disney World (1999, 2001 & 2008) to include a complete family vacation to Disney World (June 2017) and a cruise to the W. Caribbean (Grand Cayman & Cozumel, 2000). Note: 1st Disney trip postponed (death of maternal grandmother (July 1998) & grandfather 20 days later. These tragic deaths and the sudden death (car wreck) of maternal uncle Paul Vasquez (Feb 1989) would in different ways shape the family psyche for the future.

PERSONAL ADULT LIFE

Dez married Timothy (Tim) Cedillo right out of high school (June 2003). They have 3 sons: 1st handsome miracle baby (high risk pregnancy) Noah Cedillo (born 2005), 2nd handsome son Sebastian Cedillo (born 2009) and 3rd handsome son Joshua (born 2012).

The Corpus Christi/Padre Island years:
Five days after Sebastian was born, Dez & the boys joined Tim in Corpus Christi as he started a new job in the Audio-Visual (AV) convention industry at the Omni Hotel. They became members of CBC Corpus, a satellite location of CBC San
Antonio. Dez became the leader for recruitment and Tim assisted in the AV department. Dez’s parents attended this church with them when they visited almost bi-weekly for the next 3 years. The congregation was small but very personable, much like CJCLife! Their time in Corpus Christi was magical for the family as they all became avid fisherman and acclimated to the coastal environment. The Family was blessed to live right on the Packery Channel for their last year on Padre Island. Their home was waterfront property & convenient for outdoor recreation including fishing & swimming. It was a great place for the boys to highlight their youth! Additionally, Dez volunteered for a missionary trip to assist orphanages in the small, poor villages around the Puerto Vallarta, Mexico vicinity. This trip profoundly touched Dez & enhanced her empathy and genuine concern for others! Note: sister Brenda had married and joined husband Kyle Roman in Okinawa, Japan in early 2009, then stationed to Summerville, South Carolina several years later. Brenda had two lovely sons Stevie & PJ and beautiful daughter Mía.

BACK TO SAN ANTONIO

The family moved back to San Antonio (Nov 2012) soon after the birth of Joshua as their rented property was sold and also for Tim to develop experience in all aspects of the AV convention world industry. This enabled Dez to focus on being a stay-at-home Mom, a most precious job where she excelled. They were able to concentrate on raising the boys, fine-tuning their character, creativity, engage in family outings and other developmental life experiences. Dez always dreamed of being a Mom and this God-given talent was very much realized as it was a high priority in our beloved Dez’s world. The love she had for her children and the love she had for Jesus Christ would pave the way for their family’s direction. Prior to her 2nd son Sebastian’s birth, Dez completed her schooling as a dental assistant. It was an aggressive & challenging schedule, but Dez proved she was up for the challenge. The family was so proud of her for completing this lofty goal on a condensed, challenging schedule. She completed a semester at the Art Institute of San Antonio just after completing her breast cancer treatment!

THE DIAGNOSIS

Shortly after moving back to San Antonio, Dez discovered a mystery bump near her breast (Dec 2013). The worst fears were realized as she was diagnosed with stage 3a breast cancer (Jan 2014). This devastating news would rally the family and increased their faith in God. Dez flourished despite the news and developed and intensified her well known calling card: positive attitude, courageous battle-fight, absolute focus & never giving up! This adversity highlighted her immensely selfless character of genuine concern, providing assistance to others and above all, her fierce faith & trust in the Lord with all her heart! Dez became the true example of the truth “Adversity Does Not Build Character… It Reveals It!”

TREATMENT

In April 2014, Dez underwent chemotherapy, radiation, 2 surgeries and completed treatment in Nov 2014. Dez exhibited a profound will for life, displaying a contagious exuberant & courageous positive attitude. Her will to fight, with her absolute faith in God, has truly been an inspiration to ALL who have crossed her path! She ministered to all participating in her care; doctors, nurses, technicians, janitors, everyone!
Everyone wanted to work in the area of the hospital ward where Dez was staying. She was a positive inspiration to everyone! She would hand out Hope cards and talk about faith in our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

HOPE FAITH & TRUST

Dez radiated a kind, caring generous persona & was willing to help others in need. This selfless demeanor and positive attitude continued throughout her treatment and recovery period. Additionally, she had an all-important, never wavering faith in God’s ability to completely heal her. She met many people throughout this experience and was touched by those who were going through similar challenges. Her empathy, genuine concern for others and her positive aura and influence made a tremendous positive effect on those crossing her path!

Dez had numerous TV interviews, public appearances, speaking engagements & galas with the Susan G. Komen foundation, the Overcomers, the Pink Warrior Advocates, Fabooblicious, The Race for the Cure (podium presentation in May 2018), and the Ferrari Kids. Through the Susan G. Komen Foundation, she apprenticed as an aide to an East side city councilman Donovan Villanueva & worked briefly with Manny Diotte of the Ferrari Kids. She also completed her first semester of college at the Art Institute of San Antonio.

Dez was nominated & won the People’s Choice Award, 1 of 5 awards handed out from the late Karen Martinez’s Foundation 3rd Annual Healing Hearts Gala. Since then, there have been many more events and stories told by all who have expressed how inspirational Dez has been to them.

Published: Dez was published twice, both in the San Antonio Woman Magazine. First publishing was in Mar/Apr 2015 edition (initial breast cancer diagnosis and treatment) and second publishing was in Mar/Apr 2018 edition (recurrence/ Metastatic Breast Cancer).

The Healing Hearts Gala continued to open the door of opportunity for Dez in making a difference by turning a negative into a positive. Since then, there have been many more events and stories told by all who have expressed how inspirational Dez has been to them. It is this quality that has inspired, encouraged and strengthened members of her family, friends, and acquaintances. We are so appreciative to God for bringing us Dezaré! The ordeal that she faced in her young life was met with strength and courage & has confirmed God’s perceived plan. It is through this plight that revealed to us how God utilized Dezto strengthen our faith in Him to encourage and positively affect the lives of others through faith, hope, courage and perseverance! It certainly has done that!

Miracles Identified:

Throughout Dez’s life, there have been at least 5 major miracles identified. We’re sure there were many more, but these 5 will be discussed in detail in a separate section.

The blessings continued: The family was able to take a vacation to Disney World in June 2017 to include our “South Carolina” family Brenda, Kyle and our three of six grandchildren Stevie, Mía, and PJ.

The blessings were again realized in June to July 2019 when Tim, Brad & Carol were able to finally take Dez & sons to Hawaii. Tim was able to take the family there for 30 days including 2 weeks RV style in a converted Sprinter. They were able to get the most out of the Hawaii experience! Brad & Carol joined them for the last 10 days and did all the “touristy” things and adding to the lifetime of memories. It is noteworthy that Dez stated about a scene in Hawaii “this is what I imagine heaven looks like…I feel it…I’ve just been given a glimpse from God!”

DEZ FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT SHE KEPT THE FAITH SHE FINISHED THE RACE

Dez fought a brave, courageous fight nevertheless was called to heaven and earned her angel wings on March 14, 2020. Ultimately, most of us were expecting The Miracle for Dez and to make it through the battle, remain alive here on earth and continue the great works she started. The fact is, many miracles had already happened, many more! Through God’s grace & miracles, we were able to have Dez another 18 years since that almost-fatal car accident at age 17. This equated to 18 more beautiful years of Dezaré! God also gave the family 3 beautiful sons/grandsons & a lifetime of memories during those additional years. We are all grateful to you Lord, grateful for the legacy that Dez began, & the one that will continue to be cultivated for service & honor to you Lord!

LIV2LUV

Dez was a beacon of courage, hope and faith. The aura she possessed inspired ALL who crossed her path. Dez demonstrated her gift through this journey & battle of survival, of perseverance and certainly a test of faith. She was definitely in her element & became known as our Jesus Girl. This was due to her relentless pursuit of excellence while sharing the word, her inspirational giving, mentoring & counseling of others and assist them in finding their inner strength & peace. Dez would stop what she was doing to help others. She wasa tremendously kind and relentless soul, & very intentional in helping others achieve direction & inner peace. This is why people fed off her, receiving strength, hope & courage, a rarity in today’s social self- indulgences & narcissistic behavior. Dez had a way of neutralizing any negative attributes by helping people get on track. The last five years plus of her life is when she started formulating her brainchild, her project, her priority goal over others, she envisioned & initiated LIV2LUV. She used her gift, her selfless aura and compassion to bring about an initially modest endeavor. She started a very small one person business called CĀK. She made professional quality cakes and cupcakes. She was self taught and used the proceeds for spending money to help raise money for other people in need. She rounded up supplies and necessities for people in need including a well documented fundraiser for hurricane Harvey victims in August 2017. She was delivering the supplies locally to a disaster relief truck to be delivered to victims. Supplies were mostly derived from her own funds, as well as supplies rounded up and donated from others. This was captured on film from San Antonio eyewitness news anchor Sarah Forgany. Many other incidences of her generosity were undertaken. Unaware to us, Dez had developed a visionary compilation of how the foundation should be, key goals and fundraising ideas to execute. There was a distinct plan for her 1974 Volkswagen bus to be made into a ‘Jesus Bus’ to perform much needed philanthropy and spreading the good news, the plan of salvation & the Gospel of Jesus Christ! (more on this active plan of the Jesus Bus in another section) Dez never believed that this would be left for us only, always positive and always moving forward. Nevertheless, her energy, spirit and plan was left there for us to continue and see it fulfilled. On March 16, 2023, the Dez Liv2Luv Foundation was officially formed with the state of Texas and the IRS. We will be eternally grateful to our family, friends and anyone, who has the faith, spirit & motivation to help us carry this out.. We would be honored for your assistance in whatever energy you can bring to help make this foundation highly successful and to improve the world by making it a better place to navigate through! The transformation begins with each of us within ourselves. We encourage & challenge each of you to be a part of this miracle!

Although Dez was here but a short time, she accomplished much for the time she was given. She nevertheless lived a full life in a relatively short time! Many have lived longer, but many have not really lived! We all passionately wanted to see what Dez could have accomplished if she had been given more time to complete her lofty goals. Her goals are bringing people to Jesus by spending the good news of salvation and resulting in bringing profound happiness & joy to Dez, and especially to others receiving her gift…the gift she was sharing from Jesus Christ! Though her physical presence is not here, her spirit is still alive and completing & pursuing the goals she set out to accomplish. We continue to see this every day as others have taken up the cause & continue on her behalf. Just a little bit of Dez, implanted in all of us, expands into something greater than ourselves! It makes our lives more joyful, more meaningful, andgives us hope & encouragement. So now we take what she revealed & shared with us, replicate it toshare with others. Then her goal has been fulfilled for the Lord and indeed that is the miracle in which God had intended. That is what the miracle of Dez is all about. The Miracle DID happen, remembering it is in God’s perspective & timing, not our own. We must always remember that.

Thank you for allowing the family to share a summary of Dez’s story & great life experiences! We love you all & God bless!
